Brief embrace or final moments?

Weekly Writing Challenge: 1,000 Words, Take Two

WP Challenge PostADay Writing Challenges it's jennessa @Itsjennessa

This is my first writing challenge and I’m super excited to be starting #postaday. I love prose! Although I could comment on relationships in this post, I prefer not to – no doubt, I have many thoughts/comments on the subject from stories I’ve heard – hopefully you enjoy the following! :)

Brief embrace or final moments?

Two hours earlier:
On her walk home past five-story buildings on the cobbled sidewalk, Tammy’s fingers gripped her mobile phone tightly, expecting it to vibrate any second now. She starts skipping down the street, cautious of the declining steps that lead her to the train station. Using her right index finger, she flickers her slick straight chestnut hair behind her shoulders. She sees Coco – her close friend from high-school – whom lifts a pinky and bounces it from left and right as she takes a bite of her turkey ham sandwich oozing japanese mayonnaise. Coco’s high pigtails always come up in conversation and today was no different. She starts off with a brief summary of her day, how she feels, and asks of her friend the same things.

Tammy sees two hands waving in front of her face then both hands snapping. She shakes her head, trying to focus on Coco’s ramblings. She pulls out her mobile from the front pocket of her kangaroo hoody – her eye on the top left hand icon that means incoming text message. Her expression drops and she pulls out a chair at the coffee house they happened to be standing outside of.

He’s not coming, she says.
